With his photography and video work, Olli Zimtstern regularly inspires thousands of followers on social media. For the new 7Türme+ Calendar 2027, the Lübeck-based photographer has captured his city’s UNESCO World Heritage Site from his own distinctive perspective.
Olli Zimtstern feels most at home outdoors – where light, weather and perspectives are constantly changing. He does not say much about his work. He prefers to let his images speak for themselves. And above all, they reveal one thing: a constant search for that special moment and for perspectives that can make even the familiar appear entirely new.
His favourite vantage point over Lübeck is high above the rooftops. From the air in particular, the Hanseatic city reveals its full beauty and uniqueness. The seven towers, the rooftops of the Old Town, the water, brickwork and streets come together to create a view that has become a defining feature of many of his photographs.
For the 7Türme+ Calendar 2027, published as a special edition to mark 40 years of Lübeck’s UNESCO World Heritage status, Olli Zimtstern once again set out in search of unusual views of his hometown. His aim is not simply to capture familiar landmarks, but to see Lübeck differently each time: in exceptional light, from surprising angles, or in that brief moment when everything comes together perfectly.
One of the personal highlights of his photographic career also took him to new heights, in a manner of speaking: Circus Roncalli. Being given the opportunity to photograph the world-renowned ensemble was, for him, a true mark of recognition.
For anyone who would like to find out more about the photographer, his view of Lübeck and his work, the Lübecker Nachrichten have also published a recent interview with Olli Zimtstern.
