A heartfelt thank you to all the volunteers: Successful charity city tour in aid of the 7Türme+ Foundation

Despite midsummer temperatures of 34 degrees, a large number of interested participants took part in the charity city tour organised by Lübeck’s tour guides on 26 June, thereby sending a strong message in support of the preservation of Lübeck’s Old Town churches.

The starting point for this special tour was the Holstentor. Divided into four groups, the participants first explored Lübeck’s historic old town before going on to discover one of the participating churches in more detail. The choices were Lübeck Cathedral, St Jakobi, St Mary’s with its tower and vaulted cellar, and the Evangelical Reformed Church.

The charity event was initiated by Lübeck tour guide Stephanie Ullrich, who organised and ran the event together with her fellow volunteers Klaus Süberkrüp, Bernd-Dieter Thurau and Helgard Ullrich. The church tours were led by Reverend Susanne Reich, Reverend Martin Klatt, Kay Gladigau and Hans Siebke, who provided visitors with fascinating insights into the history, architecture and unique features of the places of worship.

Admittedly, the intense heat meant that fewer people turned out than had been hoped. This makes the willingness of everyone involved to support this good cause under such conditions all the more commendable. Nevertheless, in the pleasantly cool churches, guests were able to gain fascinating insights and enjoy the special atmosphere of these historic buildings.

Thanks to the voluntary efforts of all the tour guides and church attendants, the event ultimately raised around 800 euros for the 7Türme+ Foundation. The entire amount raised will go towards the preservation of the five major churches in Lübeck’s Old Town and their iconic towers.
