Lions Club Travemünde Donates to 7Türme+

Joy for the 7Türme+ Project Team: Lions Club Travemünde Supports the Planned Foundation with a €5,000 Donation

In the second half of the year, the 7Türme+ Foundation is set to begin its work. The support is already significant, says Petra Kallies. The Lübeck Provost is delighted with the donation from the Lions Club Travemünde. The sum of €5,000, provided by the service club dedicated to promoting community, friendship, and humanitarian projects in Travemünde and beyond, will support the foundation in preserving the five Lübeck old town churches.

For the ceremonial handover, the Lions Club’s presidential team, Christian Joachim Schult, Ulrich Krause, and Constantin von der Lühe, chose one of the most beautiful spots in the old town. Virtually at the feet of St. Petri and St. Marien in Lübeck, they presented the donation.

"The Lions Club Travemünde is particularly committed to preserving Lübeck's cityscape with its seven towers. That is why we decided some time ago to donate the proceeds from a joint initiative with other Lübeck Lions Clubs, the sale of Feuerzangenbowle," said Christian Joachim Schult, who held the office of president until June 30. His successor, Ulrich Krause, added, "In light of the current need for donations and the foundation 7Türme+ being established, we have now doubled this amount."

Around 1.5 million euros are needed annually to maintain the five churches in Lübeck's Old Town. Currently, there are also urgent renovation projects required at St. Marien and the Dom zu Lübeck, with nearly seven million euros still needed. Petra Kallies is counting on a new alliance of responsibility between the state, churches, and society to preserve these important buildings: "Church buildings are not only sacred places but also spaces of art and craftsmanship, as well as places of music, and thus a cultural heritage for all."
