St. Petri: Renovation of the Southwest Corner of the Tower Structure and Restoration of the Marietiden Chapel

Chapel Rescue for the St. Petri tower: From mid-2014, the outer masonry, which had been severely affected by moisture, was renovated in accordance with complex preservation standards.

In the third project phase, the southwest corner of the tower structure was the focus. This included the southernmost room of the tower structure, the Marietiden Chapel, where the interior wall surfaces were lovingly restored.

Measures

In the third construction phase, work on the masonry damaged by wind and weather was again a priority. The following measures were carried out:

Good to know

The material analysis of St. Petri revealed something special: High-burn gypsum has been used in almost all restoration phases throughout the long history of the tower.

In preparation for the restoration measures, the experts ensured that the mortar for joints and masonry was mixed to align not only with conservation standards but also to harmonize with the historical structure.
